Legal Assets’ June 19th BreakfastClub featured a compelling team-taught session presented by Katheen Cooney-Porter and Anthony John Palumbo, attorneys with Oblon, Spivak, McClelland, Maier and Neustadt’s Trademark and Copyright department. Kathleen and Anthony compiled a helpful resource binder, “A Practical Guide to the Practice of Intellectual Property,” distributed to the attendees. The pair spoke to copyright, trademark, and patent law’s essential components. Beginning with the basic elements of registration, they addressed the spectrum of marks and how and where to search. Kathleen and Anthony then covered the mechanics of both preliminary and comprehensive searches and referred the audience to suggested databases. They stressed the importance of securing intellectual property protections by peppering their discussion with entertaining anecdotes relating to the dangers of brand dilution. Participants were treated to a formidable encapsulation of a fascinating area of the law.
